iPad 2 Review

The iPad 2 has more features than the earlier version as expected. However, there were no major surprises. Granted, one big plus is that it is lighter. Nevertheless, it has not been given a huge redesign and there is nothing that we would consider really 'innovative' about it. Of course, we are tough to please, as we would like Apple to come up with a device that is far better than its previous version. The latest iPad is available at the same price as the original, which is also nice.

Let's take a quick tour of what makes the iPad 2 better than the original. It is thinner and faster. In addition, its graphic performance is more than 9 times better than the earlier version. Among other sweet goodies, we now have front and rear cameras. One thing that is a huge improvement is that it is fortified with dual-core processors with double CPU performance.

What's new on the iPad 2?

  • Apple designed A5 chip
  • Nine times faster graphic performance
  • Ultra thin: 8 millimetres thick. (It is far thinner than the iPhone4 even and about one-third thinner than the earlier model.)
  • iPad 2 will support connections from Verizon and AT&T
  • Lightweight: 1.3 pounds (far lighter than the previous model)
Apple's iPad2 is the same price as the first -- prices range from $499 to $800 -- this is a far better deal when compared to competing tablets. Mr. Jobs was fast to call its competitors copycats. According to him, other tablets have not been able to match the iPad on price or features. Today, the iPad faces more competition than ever before. Competition from HP, Samsung, Dell, and Research in Motion are getting better and better by the day.

There are few disappointments though. First, I think a lot of people wanted to see a USB port and flash support. Also, some other features that I would have loved to see are thunderbolt connectivity and retina display. More disappointingly, it failed to adopt the 4G technology. Apple is the world's largest technology company in terms of innovation. Therefore, our expectations were set too high. That said, iPad2 is worth the money in our opinion, especially when comparing it to other tablets.
