Hi,
On Monday microsoft sent me an update that was the malicious software removal tool for February,but that same one ( kb 890830) had been sent on February 11, '09.That is the first time i've noticed a mistake on Microsoft's part,at least, i think it's a mistake.
So, My quick question is, how do you access the root drive on Windows vista or any Windows : do you just type C:\Windows\system32\Mrtstub.exe ?
Mrtstub.exe is the name of the malicicious software removal tool file that M S on it's info page says is how you can remove a removal tool file. Sheesh!

Okay so I am no computer expert so please keep that in mind. I have a compaq presario. It only has 256 mb of ram which was a decent amount when I purchased the computer. Anyways, I recently had to reinstall Windows XP (I was running a system recovery or something that restores everything to factory and the computer was unplugged and a system file was missing). Well I finally got it installed and now it's saying I have 244 mb of ram not to mention it is extremely slow and the internet locks up frequently with errors. I have no idea why it would run so much slower than it used to be. I have hardly any program installed and when I try to download the basics like the .net framework it just makes it slower. The cd I used downloaded only the barebones of windows meaning I had none of the extra programs that are usually included. In fact I just had a recycling bin on my desktop when I ran it the first time. Do I need more memory or what's going on? Also, why would it run so much better before instead of now? Am I missing some very important file or something? Thank you so much.

I have installed catia v5 R19 x64bit version for windows vista x64bit. The installation was successful, however when starting up a new part or opening a file the display remains blank. I can see toolbars and icons but no geometry, workplane, etc.

I am running a windows Vista Ultimate x64bit with a NVidia GeForce GTX 295 processor and have been told that the graphics card is incompatible with this software.

As a result I want to by an additional graphics card which will alow me to use Catia, however, don't know which could be used in conjuction with the GTX295.

I have been looking at ATI Radeon and Nvidia Quadro FX graphics cards, but don't know how to go about implementing them.

Can you please give me some advice.

My Toshiba laptop is getting old and slow (about 4 years old to be precise), and I am trying to learn a little bit more about computers. Thus I want to "build" my computer from scratch if possible with the latest features available. Now I don't have a lot of money but I know I want a good DVD burner, Blueray player, 500+ Gb hard drive, wireless capabilities to network my printer & external drives etc, the ability to use my monitor as a TV (can I get one that is digital capable?), be able to play with DTS sound if possible, and of course it should have speed and sufficient ram.

What are some of the things I should consider? I have already started to look for hard drives and DVD drives. That stuff is getting cheaper and cheaper but I don't know what to look for as far as the motherboard, processor, and would I need a monitor with a tuner? I would like to be able to burn shows from TV to DVD with the DVD burner, how can I do that? I don't have cable so I don't think it would be worth me buying a blueray burner.

Currently I salvaged a Dell Precision 330 from the scrap heap. I know that the processor is too slow for me, but is there any way I can save the motherboard? It still has it's graphics card which is good but I am not sure it will be good enough for a Blueray player.

Though I can't buy all the components I need right away, any help and info would be appreciated.

Hi, i've been experiencing a slow computer for quite a while now.Everytime i open up an application my computer just freezes for like 30 seconds to 1 minute then goes back to normal. I have tried everything like defraging the hd, registry cleaning, freed up more space on hd, changed the pagefile from 720mb to 900mb, using classic theme for windows and still i experience these freezes, lock ups, non responsive programs. Also i have scanned for malware, viruses, spyware adware, nothing of the sort on my machine. What do i do? I was thinking of re formatting the hd but if there are any suggestions i would rather take them on board first! If you can please tell me some suggestions, thanks.

Microsoft XP Professional, 80GB Maxtor HD, Intel Pentium 4 2.26GHz, 512MB RAM(Dual Channel Mode)!

I have a btvoyager router, the two computers are upstairs and the phone line downstairs so it is not plugged into a computer. Due to the son being on wow all the time the speed of this is too slow causing it to lag. Please could you recommend a faster router that is easy to set up and reasonably priced. Thanks as I am fed up of being moaned at because he has been "kicked off" and am confused as most reviews mention router being connected to the computer via ethernet where as mine use dongles.

Hi, I am using windows XP. Pentium 4 it is 2.80 GHz with 128 mb of ram. I was working just fine, but now whenever I try to play any media file like mp3, avi or even youtube, the sound breaks and the video breaks too. Please suggest a solution for this problem. Thanks!

I had a virus on my computer and took it to a pro to clean it up. Even after taking off the virus it is still so slow. I have dial up and it takes sometimes a half hour to load a page. I have scanned and found nothing and have defragmented. Still as slow as ever. Can you guide me as to what to do next?? Help!!

This is not a problem with streaming audio not coming through. I'm talking about EVERYTHING that is audio-related on my pc is slow, like everyone all of a sudden has a lower voice . . . lower . . . and slower . . . but mostly really l-o-w. There has to be some setting in my system that needs tweaking - any ideas?

I received a laptop from a friend (it WASN'T stolen), and he'd loaded it up with lots of valuable, expensive programs that I found useful. It's a Dell Inspiron 8600. He originally had his own username and password to get logged into WinXP Professional, and he set it up so all I had to do was hit Enter on Admin2 to log on. I recently loaded a bad program into the computer that caused it some problems. I removed the program, but I was still having some performance problems, so I decided to use System Restore to get it back to the way it was when he sent it to me. Well, I did a good job, because I restored it too far, and now I can't log into Windows, because his username is there, but not his password, and it's been so long since he's used it, that he no longer remembers the password. I've filed a transfer of ownership with Dell, but I'm not sure if that'll help anything. They haven't responded yet. If Dell doesn't help me, is there anything that can be done to unlock the unit without losing all of the programs installed? My friend is trying to find the restore disk that came with it. Would that help anyway? Is there a way to reconfigure this thing, or is the chip soldered in place on the motherboard, that stores the passwords, and it's going to take everybody and their brother a whole lot of work to get this working again? If I go to a tech, he'll probably think it was stolen and not want to assist me. I'm stuck with just a huge piece of useless metal now, aren't I? Is it possible to use my WinXP Home (complete registered program) CD to get into startup and try to repair the unit -- or are they incompatible? If all else fails, I'll have to f-disk and reload Windows entirely and lose everything, which I think is probably the only choice I'll have, right?

Motherboards guide.
I've had this laptop for about a year. But soon I will go for a more powerful desktop....
Im looking for a desktop for my next 3-5 years.
So i'll go for a 100-130�(200-250$)motherboard.
Is that good enough?
. Then studying I found out it'd be better to buy the best motherboard with a middleclass dual core ...in the idea to be able anytime in the future to add more ram,hard drive, change cpu, or whatever.
Is there any guide a bit more advanced than this?
On some sites the very similar two motherboards ,even written with same specs come with very different prices...!!! Why? what do they hide?

I'm having problems with my pc being too slow.
There is no viruses, no unwanted bg applications, have 1gb RAM. and the processor is INTEL CORE 2 DUO.

the pc takes rather long time to boot and one of the symptoms is that the startup sound is discrete\discontinuous not smooth .

the mother board and the cpu fans aren't dusty!

everything seems to be fine. Dose any problems give those symptoms ?
i tried system restore but some of the logs do not restore and on reboot it displays error in system restore.
i don't think think there are any bad sectors in the hdd.

Please get me through this.

Struggling money are forcing me to keep with this laptop but Im still trying to find a CPU upgrade sometimes:
Acer Aspire 5315 (Acadia) with a 2.0Ghz Celeron 550 (single core) on a 479mPGA pink socket ,533 Mhz FSB.
Max 2Gb Ram installed.
I've been for weeks trying to find the highest Celeron M in this class (479mPGA) but SO FAR
I dont even know if there is ever made something higher. So, If you know there is a faster one ,just tell me the name of it. I'll do the rest.(does it need to be on same 533 FSB?... Pathetic Acer.com as usual is unable to know or give the specs of the motherboards they sell.)

If I have to register to use this site It ain't going to work. I had some virsuses on my computer I did an anti-virus and defragment. My problem is I can't log into ANYTHING that requires a username and password. My internet works fine. I can't open accounts like on ebay. I already have an e-mail account and I do online classes and I can't log into that either. If I use someone else's computer I can get into it just fine. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am having problems with my laptop I use for school and work. It is an hp pavilion only 2 years old windows defender is finding 2 Trojan even after i remove them and when I try to open spybot it starts scanning and shuts down. Ad-aware does not work at all and when I open disk clean up it starts scanning and shuts down. Hijack this also does not work. AVG works fine but does not find anything and every once and a while i get a windows defender pop up about the 2 Trojan coming back. Also, windows restore had all its saved points erased when this all started. I am thinking about just restoring it to the disk but I will lose everything. Hi.Recently brought a computer and have only had it for about 2 months.The problem is that it just turns of all of a sudden by itself. my head is aching cause i dont know how to repair my computer. here is the story:

last 2 days ago i opened my computer. there was a disk check up. then after that i got a "lsass.exe" error. it took me a while before i decided to reinstall my windows. so i did it. during the reinstall, it asked for my windows cd 1st, then nvidia cd, then lastly windows cd. but on the last part, i got some errors. it says some files cannot be located. i cant locate it so i just pressed "skip". then finally my pc worked. i was so happy.

after 1 day, i had a problem again. i opened my pc but it doesnt show anything. my monitor power light just keep on blinking and blinking. i tried to reconnect all my power cords then it started. there was an error saying system32/startup cannot be found. so again, i reinstalled my windows xp. and again, some of those files were not found.

and earlier this morning i had same problem again. monitor just keep blinking and not showing anything. :(
