Properly Reinstall a Program in Windows 7 or Vista

Reinstalling a program is necessary after a failed initial installation. Properly reinstalling a program is also helpful if a program starts to behave erratically or starts causing problems. Reinstalling a program involves uninstalling it completely and installing it again.

The steps below will take you through the correct steps for reinstalling programs in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Step 1 - Click the Start button and go to Control Panel. Locate and click on the "Uninstall a program" link. If you can't find the link easily, then you are probably using "Classic View". If you are using Classic View, open up the "Control Panel" and find the "Add or Remove Programs" button.

Step 2 - Locate and click on the program you want to uninstall. You can either click the program once to select it and look for the uninstall tab at the upper side of the dialog box or you can double-click the program to begin uninstalling immediately.

Step 3 - Answer all prompts and wait for the program to finish uninstalling.

Step 4 - Restart your computer. Restarting your computer ensures that all components of the program are removed.

Step 5 - Check to see that the program is no longer on your computer. Click on start, type in the name of the program in the Start Search box or click on the "All Programs" link to search for the program.

Step 6 - Now is the time to install a fresh copy of the program. Get the CD/DVD installation disc ready. Insert the disk into CD/DVD drive and follow the instructions to install. If you have it on a memory stick, copy the installation file to your desktop and then double-click on it to begin installing.
