Microsoft Threatened by Google Planned Acquisition of ITA
As Google makes the move to acquire ITA Software, Microsoft is joining forces with travel sites to protest the deal. ITA powers the Microsoft Bing Travel search site and it controls about 7 % of online flight searches at U.S. airline sites.
Online sites against the deal are Expedia.com, Farelogix, Kayak, TripAdvisor, Sabre Holding, and Hotwire. The protesting parties have filed truckloads of petitions against the deal with the antitrust authorities.
Google insists that the acquisition would make it easier for people to search for flight information online and it would benefit both the air travelling public and travel agencies alike.
