Best Registry Cleaner

Your registry can build up unnecessary entries over time from the adding and removing of programs and files. These unnecessary entries can cause your computer to become slower and slower over time. Many instances of a computer slowing down can be attributed to high levels of registry damage and registry errors. Before running out and buying a new computer, it is worth the time to try to speed up your current computer. Due to this, it is recommended that you use a registry cleaner every so often to fix all the issues with the registry. Doing simple things such as cleaning your registry, defragmenting your hard drive, and freeing up disk space can save you some money in the long run by allowing you to get more use out of your current PC.

When using a Registry cleaner software, it's important to choose the right one to get the most out of it and there are more then a few to choose from. We take a look at some of the best registry cleaners to see how they stack up in an effort to find the overall best registry cleaner.

#1 Uniblue RegistryBooster
RegistryBooster had a very easy to use interface. In our tests, Uniblue RegistryBooster performed very well. It improved startup times by 30%, shut down times by 10%, progam open and close times by 10%, and improved the overall speed of the computer. We also liked the registry defrag feature that this software had. The registry defrag may have been the difference why our computer was performing a little bit better after cleaning versus the other top cleaners. The speed of the scan was a little bit slower than the other top registry cleaners. However, it did do a better job. So, this could just be an indicator of Registry Booster being a bit more thorough. Based on these results, we thought it was currently the best registry cleaner on the market.

#2 Registry Mechanic
Registry Mechanic by PC Tools is another quality product. PC Tools is a very reputable company and they put out a good product when it comes to Registry Mechanic. It has a very easy to use interface and Registry Mechanic performed pretty well in our tests as well. Not quite as well as RegistryBooster, but pretty close. We would definately recommend Registry Mechanic.

#3 RegCure
RegCure is the last product we picked to round out the top registry cleaners. RegCure, like the others, has an easy to use interface. One very cool feature was the registry cleaner scheduler. This allowed us to set up a weekly schedule to keep our registry free of errors. The reason we had it at #3 and not higher is because it missed fixing a few errors on our test PC. However, we do think this is a quality product overall.

Honorable Mention

We also found System Mechanic and AVG's PC Tuneup to be pretty good products as well. They didn't perform quite as well as our top 3. However, they are solid registry cleaner software packages.

It is important to keep your registry clean. Cleaning the registry is something that you should do every few weeks. All three of the registry cleaners we have listed on this page are quality products. Hopefully this guide has helped you to find the best registry cleaner for your specific needs.
