The New Facebook as Google+ Opens the Door

Google+ has finally opened the door for everyone to register and share with friends. If you already have a Google account, you don't need to register for a new one. In the early days of Google+, users had to wait for an invite. However, now, it is open for all. Google is using its search page to promote Google+ too.

Google+ needs hundreds of millions of users to join and share information with their friends. It is widely believed that integrating Google+ with search has brought Google a step closer to dethroning Facebook. Google is actually trying to funnel its search users to the Google+ platform.

According to Google's Senior Vice President of Engineering: "For the past 12 weeks we have been in the field trial to beta, and we just introduced our 100th feature: open signups. This way anyone can visit google.com/+, join the project, and connect with the people they know."

To overthrow Facebook, Google must appeal to users and try to give them those things that Facebook is lacking. Nevertheless, Facebook is not slacking; they are monitoring Google+ and making adjustments accordingly.

Google has introduced the Google+ live group video-conferencing feature to link mobile devices running Android 2.3 and higher. Google is still rolling out features and we can only wait and see what else is in store.

Talking about the Internet, Google encourages individuals to come up with sites, and populate them with content. Facebook wants an Internet where everything is on Facebook. Facebook wants items such as your search for hotel reservations, places you visit, music you are listening to, and more to all show up on Facebook.

The competition is like a game of soccer. A team that scores the first goal has a psychological advantage. The problem Google+ is facing is how to lure people and their friends to join Google+ when they are already pretty happy with Facebook.

The new Facebook Timeline and Privacy

The new Facebook Timeline is a place where someone can go to and immediately get an idea about your personality. An app could be able to track the books you read, the list of movies you have watched, and of course your favorite music. These privacy concerns have made a many users angry. Facebook, in an apparent move to stave off the pressure from Google+, has changed so much to the chagrin of users who hate major change.
